![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dear Readers: WE HAVE GOOD NEWS TO SHARE WITH YOU. The Seattle Times has successfully completed a renegotiation of its debt, which will enable us to continue our long-term mission of providing high-quality, independent journalism, news and opinion for the Puget Sound region and our state. It is no secret that the country’s financial implosion had a major negative impact on newspaper advertising revenues and put our future in peril. A year ago, rumors suggested that our days were numbered. While we continue to navigate through a slow recovery, we felt it important to put these rumors to rest by sharing our good news. The Seattle Times is here to stay. Localism Twenty years of consolidation have left most large cities across America without a locally owned newspaper. Seattle is one of only six exceptions. Localism means decisions — both journalistic and business — are made at The Seattle Times by people who are part of your community and who view the newspaper as a long-term public service essential for a vibrant community and self-government. Record Readership and Audience Our daily goal is to keep your trust as the independent source and voice you rely on. Every day, through the newspapers you buy and through your access to our digital offerings, you tell us what you think. Your actions tell us that our journalism, content and accessibility are among the very best in the country. Indeed, we reach 70 percent of the adult population in King and Snohomish counties through The Seattle Times and seattletimes.com. Our paid daily circulation is the highest it’s ever been. Stewardship The Seattle Times will remain vibrant because of you, our loyal readers. Strong communities need strong local newspapers and professional digital news offerings to provide the “town square” necessary for effective self-government. The strength of our readership and the powerful impact of our advertising demonstrate the value you place on having an independent news and information organization serving this community. Whether you use The Times in print, online or on any other digital platform, you can count on us to provide the information you need to make informed decisions about your life. We, together with our talented, mission-driven employees, are committed to serving you and the Puget Sound region seven days a week, as we have for more than 100 years. Privilege As a locally owned journalism/community-service business, it is a privilege to operate a newspaper in our democratic system and to serve this region with local news and information that nurtures community. It is a stewardship we are proud of and which we plan to perpetuate for many years to come. Thank you for your support.
